Well, I was doing a scan with Avast (Internet Security Program) upon boot up and when prompted to delete the winnt files that were infected - I accidently said yes. However, I got the scan to stop, but it still deleted about 10 - 15 winnt files before I did. Now when I boot up it's like it's in safe mode visually w/o the actual writing on the screen, but I haven't experienced any other problems with the Windows Server 2000. Can anyone help me with what to do?

Do a system state restore if you have a backup.

You do have a backup...right? :)

Crazy as it might sound. I told my IT guy to set it up and he never did.

do what technome recommended, as soon u get it up and running, make a backup of ur data and then do a fresh install. make sure u have a propper antivirus solution running before u restore ur data again!

OK guys, thanks a bunch, but how do I do an "over the top" repair install. THANKS in advace.

Repair install...

After your system boots properly, immediately turn off system restore, restart, boot in to safe mode with networking, download spybot and spywareblaster, install them, update them, run spybot. Still in safe mode, go online and scan your machine with Kaspersky and Trend Micro free AV online scanners. While your at it clean out ALL temp directories on the machine. If you have less then 7 individual viruses, you have pretty good odds the machine will clean up, over 7 plan on a total rebuild after you get your data off. Those are my odds, if you have a new virus variant all bets are off.
