I'm fairly new to AIX as we got a new P630 in March. I've been making a new 'mksysb' tape on a weekly basis as I was told that this is good practice in the event we need to restore our O/S.

If I use the following command: bootlist -m service -o, it shows only hdisk0 for an entry. Shouldn't I have 'rmt0' as the first entry for my service bootpath to allow restoring from mksysb?

I was going to change it using the following command to set the tape drive first and both mirrored hard drives next. bootlist -m service rmt0 hdisk0 hdisk1. My bootlist for 'normal' is hdisk0 hdisk1. Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

I'd keep the hdisks at the beginning of the list, but yes, you need to have the tape drive listed to make it easier if you lose both disks. I'd also add the CD device, too, to the bootlist.

If the disks are healthy, but you still want to restore from tape or boot from the CD, you can interrupt the boot process and change the boot device at that time.

Thank you..that's what I did. I'm using the order hdisk0, hdisk1, rmt0, cd0.

I appreciate your help.
