booting up a clone HD to another box

is it possible to boot up a clone copy HD running windows 2000 professional from an old dell dimension P3 in another box containg different hardware configurations.
 
If the system has the same hard disk controller chipset (or compatible) then you should be able to boot in safe mode, but not in normal mode.
This will be OK for copying data off the machine (but remember you won't have network access unless the LAN cards are identical - in which case use safe mode with networking).

If the disk controllers are different, then the only option is to slave the hard drive into a different machine.
