We bought a AIX box and I need some help with it.

When I first turn it on, it says messages such as loading software, bootp and then can't resolve server ip. The bootp gets stuck in a loop.

How do I bypass this so that I can put our ip address on it and also log on eventually?

Keep in mind the OS came preloaded and I don't have a cd to boot from.

Your server can not find a bootable device to bootup.
PLS you do steps below
1. enter SMS menu, check boot sequence to see if your bootable disk in list.
=>if not, put your bootable disk in the list and exit SMS to reboot.
2.if SCSI disk already in the list, it means someone choose a wrong disk.
=>Try to put another disk in boot sequence and boot again.
3.All disks can not boot?
=>This server has not installed OS, You should Install OS.
4.Can not find a disk to install or fail?
=>Disk is dead. Replace it.

If you have more question after done this, post it to here.
let's discuss about it.

How do you get into service mode and/or sms mode without a cd?

It depends on the model of the system. Sometimes it's F5, sometimes the number 5, sometimes F6, sometimes 6. You have to press the correct button right after the keyboard is initiated.

Post your model here and someone should be able to tell you how to get into SMS.
