How would I boot a RH 7.0 linux server to a different run level. By default the server runs at init 3

I need to boot the box into run level 1 (init 1)

Can this be down from the boot up sequence ?

I made a change to one of the boot scripts (/etc/rc.d/....
I added a line to the syslog script.

Now when the system boots syslog fails with an error and everything past identd fails.

Basically my system will not boot. The problem I have is this server is a 1RU server with no A drive. I can not boot to floppy.

I need to find a way to get the system booted and edit the start up script I changed. I suspect that will reverse the problem.

If I could alter the run level at boot up this would allow me to get into the system at run at a differnet run level.
SCO openserver allows for this . Does Linux ??

Any thoughts

Hi,
editing the /etc/inittab should do that. You'll have to change the initdefault value to your desired run-level. (example from Solaris box: is:3:initdefault:)

hope it"ll help you! regards

You can also specify the runlevel at the lilo prompt. When the lilo prompt appears, hit tab and then type a runlevel. e.g. linux 1 for single user mode Mise Le Meas,
