hi all,

1) when i restart the sun system..it is displayed
eg:
/dev/rdsk/c0t0s0s4 is stable but sometime is shows
/dev/rdsk/c0t0s0s4 is clean
what is the difference between the both? ("clean" and "stable" and which one should i looks out for ?

2) Also when i restart the system i get this message:
sendmail (234) unqualified host name....
i thuink its for the email setup or something....where do i change the hostname for the sendmail ?

3) when i restart the Sun machine and before it gets to the Login prompt....i usually get many error messages. Where can i get the log file of the error messages from?

Thanks everyone for your help.

regards,
Dinesh

1. Don't worry about it. If the file system is NOT clean or stable you will not boot to multiuser mode.

2. Sendmail relies on a properly functioning DNS and hostname configuration. If you have upgraded, e.g. installed Sendmail from a local build, your DNS may not
be exactly correct. For a try, look at your DNS setting in
/etc/nsswitch.conf to see if your system is lookin at
the /etc/hosts or DNS first. Otherwise, you can modify
the /etc/sendmail.cf file and locate/fix your domain registry for sendmail. If you are using "dns files" in your
nsswitch.conf file, then your DNS configuration for both
forward and reverse lookups may need checking. If the entry
is "files dns" then your /etc/hosts entry for the host may
not match the host name.

3) Check /etc/syslogd.conf for file locations; most common
are /var/log/*, /var/adm/messages, /var/adm/kern, it depends
on your local tweaking and the build of your solaris.

fsclean : file system umounted properly --not checked on
boot.

fsstable: is mounted on was mounted but no change since
the last ehckpoint (sync or fsflush--occurs every
30 seconds)

sundocs --file systems info will detail this

UNQUALIFIED hostname:

vi the /etc/hosts file and add a fully qualified
name.
192.11.10.15 myhostname myhostname.mycompany.com loghost

/var/adm/message file will have the entries (right after a bootup you can view dmesg--this will be overwritten in time)
