my installation of freebsd froze. I did not have a monitor or a keyboard hooked up to the server in question so being the lazy putz that I am I just powercycled the box.

Now when I boot it goes to the screen where you can pick to boot normally, single user, safe, etc. When you make a selection it hangs for a minute or two before it does anything and then it brings me to a prompt
Code:
mountroot>

I type in
Code:
ufs:partion to mount

and it says
Code:
Warning /partion was not properly dismounted
init: not found in path /sbin/init:/sbin/oinit:/sbin/init.bak:/stand/sysinstall
panic: no init
Uptime: time
Then it hangs there until I power cycle...help!

ok i found out with partition is root and tried to mount it with the following error
Code:
ad0: FAILURE - READ_DMA status=51<READY,DSC,ERROR> error=40<UNCORRECTABLE> LBA=2563935
Root mount failed: 5

well i suggest next time you do the installation do it right and use a monitor and a keyboard to be able to create the partitions and the boot sectors correctly

wow! thanks for the advice that solves my problem! your so smart...

I'm not kidding you manny, you have to do the installation again. It would be much easier than to try to make it work as it is.
