I want to boot Red Hat Linux 7.0 from a previously installed NT 4.0 workstation

I have partitioned my hard disk .

Partion 1 : hda1 ==> dos fat
Partion 2 : had2 ==> NT
Partion 3 : hda3 ==> Linux Native
Partion 4 : hda5 ==> Linux Swap

I have installed Red Hat Linux 7.0 in Partion 3 : hda3 ==> Linux Native.

I have installed LILO in the first section of Linux Native : hda3

MBR has the previous NT System Loader.

I have created a Boot disk for Linux.

I have made the Boot Sequence of my machine as A , CD-Rom, C.

Now when I am booting using the Linux boot disk, it is not loading Linux
, but instead of that it is Loading NT first.

I can not load Linux using the boot floppy also.

Please suggest.

I had this problem with almost the same setup... i think what i did was set the linux partition as the boot partition

or install lilo into your MBR and go from there..

sorry if im no help im just a dumb 17 year old :)

As far as I know LILO must be within the first 1024 blocks on your primary boot disc. In your case hda1.
I´ve never mixed NT and linux but win9x worked fine with me.
If you feel like installing it all over again. Begin with microsoft software since Windows has a way of overwriting all prior Boot records and replacing it with it´s own.
not a sollution but some tips along the way.
I know that mixing NT and linux can be done. I´ve no links to offer but take a look at some linux sites or search engines.
If you haven´t already done it, please post this message in the linux group as well.

You need to load LILO intothe MBR. When it boots up it has to have your boot up options in the same area of the hard disk.
