All of a sudden, I am getting a huge pause when booting in Windows 98 SE, so I tried starting step by step, so I could maybe see where the problem is. It got all done loading the windows drivers, then paused about 3 minutes before starting Windows. No clue what to do, and just installed Windows 98 Se last week and do not want to do it again.

Thanks in advance.

Kev,

Check your startup folder. Remove any items you are uncertain about.
Check your network settings. If you are trying to connect to a server or network that does not exist it will take time!
Check the run section of the registry:
local_m/soft/micro/win/current/run
Also check the runonce just in case it is not finishing.
Also try F8 boot and choose logged then check the log for errors.

also try the HKEY_Current_User section of the registry and follow the same path and go through all the folders that say "Run" or anything with run at the beginning of the folder, they are all together so you wont miss them. There are a few things that you don't want to delete though. Scanregistry, LoadPowerProfile, Systray, Explorer(Not sure if that one is actually a registry but you still don't wanna delete it) and if you are on WinME there are a few more that I'm not sure if you wanna delete (PCHealth, ssdpsrv) and I think thats the Jimmy. Yup, thats it.
