Hi

I have recently purchashed a Maxtor 300gb One touch drive and I need to be able to get it to boot to dos for Ghost Imaging and data retrieval. I have tried various USB System files and edited many a config.sys all to no avail

I have tried the following (cutted and pasted):

USBASPI.SYS Panasonic USB to ASPI driver v2.06 and v2.15 Reference

> To detect your USB Mass storage device (.e.g. a USB 2.0 external hard drive) put this line in your boot diskette CONFIG.SYS file

device=USBASPI.SYS /w /v

===========
USBASPI.SYS Switches:

Here are the known valid switches identified so far with the Panasonic(TM) v2.xx USBASPI.SYS driver in CONFIG.SYS

device=[{path}]USBASPI.SYS [/e] [/o] [/u] [/v] [/w] [/r] [/l[#]] [/p=xxx0] [/f] [/slow] [/nocbc] [/norst] [/noprt]

DI1000DD.SYS v2.00 from Novac, ASPI Mass Storage Device
> If the USB devices are already plugged upon power up and you want to enable only the high-speed USB controller and external hard disk drives, try

device=USBASPI.SYS /e /v
device=DI1000DD.SYS

> If you have only a single USB port and no internal floppy, use this CONFIG.SYS combination:

device=RAMFD.SYS
device=USBASPI.SYS /w /v /r

> If you have a notebook with a USB optical drive, install the ASPI CD-ROM device driver after loading USBASPI.SYS in CONFIG.SYS like this:

device=USBASPI.SYS /w
device=USBCD.SYS /d:USBCD001

and in AUTOEXEC.BAT:

MSCDEX /d:USBCD001

> If you want to connect a USB 2.0 optical drive and a USB 2.0 external hard disk simultaneously, put these in the CONFIG.SYS file:

device=USBASPI.SYS /e /w
device=USBCD.SYS /d:USBCD001
device=DI1000DD.SYS

and in AUTOEXEC.BAT:

MSCDEX /d:USBCD001

> For troubleshooting USB connections, install all your devices and boot from your diskette with this in CONFIG.SYS:

device=USBASPI.SYS /v

None of these seem to work and I am at a loss , Ghost Boot manager disk fails to pick up this USB device, Does anyone have one of these drives and managed to get it working.

All help appreciated

Thanx

What OS? If XP, Ghost will only run in DOS. When in Windows, go to backup as usual and you will be given the choice to create a DOS boot disk. Set the boot order to boot floppy first, and use the Ghost boot disk you created. While you are changing the boot order, make sure the "legacy" USB is checked.

Thanx for taking the time for your reply. I have created the USB Ghost bootdisk and have USB legacy support on but after USBASPI.sys loads and asks for USB device to be connected and to press Enter it states NO USB devices found. It is getting very frustating as in theory these drivers load into highmem and hence should pick up all USB 1.1 or 2.0 devices but no such luck.

I have heard it is definitly possible to get USB HD's recognised in DOS as people who have IOMEGA ext USB hd's have achieved this. I need a bootdisk image which has the correct sys files which will recognise this Maxtor drive.

Regards

Terry
