This was the closest category that I could find, so please forgive if this is posted in the wrong place.

I have Dell Poweredge 2550 server with a combo CD and floppy drive. I am attempting to load server 2003 on it.
The only CD that it will recognize is a restore cd from an HP 6730. I did a control-break after it loaded the CD driver, but it still will not recognize the CDs from server 2003, Windows ME, or Windows 98 upgrade. My idea was to get any type of operating system loaded, connect to my router, and then load server 2003 that way. If I let the HP restore CD continue, it recognizes the computer is not an HP and tells me so. It then wants to reboot.
My question: are there in parameters in the HP restore CDs that tell it to bypass the check?

I have also found that it will recognize my UltimateBoot-CD( but I cannot find any tools on there that might help me with this.

As a side note, I have ordered a PCI IDE card. Hopefully I can get it to recognize a more up to date CD drive.

I greatly appreciate any tips.

If it isn't booting to the 2003 cd then it isn't a bootable cd, is it a copy? As for the HP CD it is for HP so it would have the drivers needed to run the server.

Have you tried downloading the CD image that supports that server from the Dell site? If it recognizes the HP and Ultimate boot cd, then you can download the CD that supports your server. You can go to the microsoft site to download a Windows 2003 ISO

DO you have a real Server 2003 no matter what version CD?

HP System Restore CD's will only work with their perspective Devices.

I have tried this before, and it failed.

Do you have an MSDN Account?
