i would like to create a bootable cdrom. i have looked into the "mkcd" command and it will create a backup of my entire system and write it to a bootable cdrom. that is not exactly what i want because it requires too much disk space for staging and i really do not care about all of the data in the filesystems. i really only want a bootable cdrom so that i may do some quick troubleshooting without mounting the local filesystems.

i know bosboot will create a cdrom image but what do i do with it? how do i make the cdrom bootable? does "cdboot" do anything useful here? can i use "mkcd" just to create a rescue disk?

If all you want to do is boot to do quick troubleshooting, couldn't you just boot from the installation disk? Or boot to single user mode (shutdown -m)?

that is true, i could boot from the installation disk for simple maintenance tasks. however, my company is developing disaster recovery tools for aix and we would like to create our own boot media and then have the install scripts drop us into our menus.
