boot-up sticky

I boot up my windows 2KPro box and it always halts at the device allocation screen.
e.g.
0)POST
1)memory test
2)IDE device listing
3)the boot process ends at the device listing screen
4)I reboot, into the BIOS, do nothing, save changes that I haven't or have made, and it boots into windows.

Duhh, like huh???

It's a bit of a funky security feature I guess...

Any ideas?

Possibly the CMOS battery is going bad, are you having any problems with date/time? All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.

I thought the little three volt might be a suspect in this little dilemna, but unfortunately I haven't had a single second lost in my time.

I'd be tempted to jumper the bios for flush and reset your CMOS with your carefully documented settings

I agree with gargouille, if this does not work then you may have a hardware component that is on the way out. Unfortunately that could be anything but you could try running diagnostic software to check the various components. All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.

Hey thanks
I did jumper the BIOS at one time in my travels. Oops, though I did not record any technical settings first.
The unit is relly difficult to open up, but I managed to open it up to the battery and flush'er out without kinking any of those tiny little ribbon cables.
as for running diagnostic software, have much diag. software for DOS, WIN, etc. and none of them so far have seen the CD drive.

Does your CD drive work, if it has failed this could explain your original problem All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.
