Boot Up Slow - bootlog the key??

I installed XP Pro about a month ago. I think it was a bout 2 weeks ago my bootup slowed by about 30s.

There is a 25-30 second delay AFTER the "Windows is Starting" Screen, and BEFORE the "Logon Window" appears.

The screen goes black, and the HDD churns away.

WHY?? What have I done? DID I do anything?

I made a bootlog of it, and here are a list of Drivers that "aren't loaded"....but why? Could one of these be causing the problem??

Have you defragged lately? I have experienced this many times, but usually a defrag clears it up. IT'll happen especially if I have made copies of CD's where alot of writing to the drive has been done and then deleted. Also it happens when I remove shareware programs that have expired or I have uninstalled.

Try doing a full system Virus scan to rule out any possible virus infections.

BootVis says there is a NIC Delay of 20s....what is this? Is this to do with my Broadband Network Card??

your network card if it does not obtain an ip will slow start up, but when this happens to me there is no hdd activity....i would think ya got a worm.

the only right answer to "why?" is: "why not?"

Hmmm...I'll run Ad-Aware and my Anti-Virus program now...I'll let you know.

Could the problem be tied in with this?:

Well i found 99 trojans in Adaware...they're all gone, and I had no viruses.

No change in boot time, but after the logo disappeared on the reboot, it told me that it had to check the drive for errors because "the volume is dirty"! What does this mean??
