When I start my PC and it does the whole DETECTING IDE Drive's thing, It takes about a minute. It finally see's that i have one hard drive and two cd drives. Then it will start booting like normal but when it gets to the part where the windows loading screen comes up. It says DISC BOOT FAILURE.. PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISC. So next time it started up i tried to get to the windows repair thing but it will load up everything and right when it gets to the part where you can select if you want to either install windows or repair an exsisting installation, the PC just shuts off. What is my main problem here. Would the power supply cause these kinds of issues or am i just going to need a new hard drive?

My first thing would be check the jumpers. Even if your hard drive was bad that would not cause the computer to shut up. Also check for a bios update. When did you start having this problem? Were you building the computer or did it just start one day?

It just started happening one day. I will update the bios and let you know how that goes.

Bad Hard Drive controller may do this, including the shutdown. Get another harddrive and see if that fixes it.

1.) always go the cheapest first...

2.) Jumpers check them... also use another Power Connector, could be loose or corroded...

3.) Replace the IDE CABLE, make sure that it is in correctly...

4.) Test another HD (spareone if you have it)...

Ok, I updated the bios... No help there. I replaced the ide cable... no help. I put another hard drive in.. No help, However, I did realize that when I changed the hard drive from the master to the slave position it would not go into this nvidia boot agent program as it was before. I then tried to get to the windows xp repair utilty again using 6 floppy disc's instead of the cd cause i can't boot from the cd drives for some odd reason. It would get to the end and it would say pleae wait forever. What else could be the problem here? Is a new motherboard in my future. How would you suggest i check the jumpers?

pyro,
A failed or failing cd-rom drive will cause these symptoms as well. Try booting normally with the cd-rom drive cables unplugged.

CD Rom Drive's didn't seem to have an affect if they were connected or disconnected. I am going to try another hard drive later today.
