I know this is simple but I have an old ultra10 for which no one knows the login/pass. I need to do a clean install but I have completely forgotten how to boot to the 'ok' prompt. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
If u just want to login to the system then u can do so with root id and u can change the password for root id by booting the system using cd-rom in single user-mode without re-installing the OS.
U can go to the OK prompt two ways:
When u have just booted the system...
1)If u have a Sun keyboard then press (STOP+A)
2)If u have a keyboard connected to serial port press BREAK
or (BREAK+FN)
As I had written earlier,U need to have u'r keyboard connected to u'r sun box and depending upon the connection of u'r keyboard to the box ,U can give the appropriate command.
In general terminal servers won't allow you to do this. The problem being as far as I can see is mostly key mapping. Even if you can bring the machine down to OK> through your terminal, you then end up getting gibberish as you type.
But there are some pieces of hardware that do support it, or at least claim to. I have found that in some cases they fail to meet published specs. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the one system that worked. I do remember that it was a pretty expensive PC based KVM system made by a British company.
But this is academic really as you already own the terminal server system. Unless your terminal server system supports this functionality you're out of luck. If it, does consult the manufacturers support to find out how (they all seem to be slightly different).
