Hi there,

I just downloaded the "download" version of Mandrake 10 but haven't installed it yet.

Does anyone know how to configure the installation so that it doesn't automatically boot to a GUI? I would prefer to boot to a logon prompt, enter a username and password and then startx, but I don't know how to go about setting that up since modern distro installs are so automated now.

Thanks,
Rob

I assume you mean using CLI after install not a text install (text instal directions are provided on the load up screen of the install disk).

Simply install then go back and edit your /etc/inittab file. The first uncommented line should say something like id:5:initdefault:

5 is the X runtime (GUI). Change this value to 3 and it chould boot command line instead of graphically.
