My system is a T-Bird 1.2, Abit KT7a mobo, GF4 TI4200 64mb, 80 GB ata100, 256 mb ram, XP home

My question is that when my pc is booting everything loads fine except the boot screen. goes from the balck screen with the white status bar at bottom to a blank screen (where the boot screen should be) for 10 sec then to the welcome screen. I have tried updating video card and mobo bios and sp1 for xp. I have also tried deleting the ntoskrnl.exe file and letting the os replace it but no good. also d/l boot xp, didn't work either

where the boot screen should be

Do you mean that you have multiple os's and that's what's missing?

the screen that hs the windows xp logo with the loading bar in blue below it.

Hey I no expert at XP or W2k but it sounds to me like your LOGO.SYS file is missing... thats the Welcome screen your talking about at least on W95/98/98se/me... Take a BMP of your choice resize it to 320x400 save it to C: as LOGO.BMP rename it in Windows to LOGO.SYS and it should be back again...

Good Luck and I hope it helped...

Ben

OOPS, I goofed a bit...

either save the file out as LOGO.XXL (not BMP) and then proceed as stated above...

or go to DOS instead of Windoze and proceed as above...

BEN

I have somewhat tried that. I deleted the ntoskrnl.exe file then rebooted. it placed another ntoskrnl.exe file in the sys32 dir. but it still does the same thing. Is there a special tag that sould be in the win.ini for it to load?

Nope, NTOSKRNL.EXE is a main part of the OS (Windoze) itself...

what I am talking about is the Drive C: very beginning... ergo - go to 'My Computer' double click, it opens a window, there you double click on drive c: and it opens it... and right there should be the file LOGO.SYS... or under c:\windows\system...

the file is in BMP form 8bpp (256colors)... (forgot that earlier)...

another way to do this is to get a hold of the program Xteq Systems X-setup, it has a few neat features, one of which is to change the Boot screen aswell as the log-off screens...
can be found on
Have fun, Ben

sphishex did you try X-System? and was the Pic you chose a BMP sized 320 by 400 8bpp (256col) and it didn't work?

then I would reinstall win xp again (not a total clean install) just a system file install...

btw without the Bootpic the system boots a bit quicker... the pic is just there so it looks good...

Ben

no b/c i am on DU and it was like alomst 9 mb. i have bootxp which it automatically resizes the pic for a boot immage.

Then I am sorry can't help you much more there...

good luck trying... though...
