Boot problem

I had a power source failure which resulted in my needing to install a new mother board and power source. I installed a 500watt power source and a new Soyo SY-KT333Dragon Ultra Platinum Edition motherboard for use with an AMD Athlon 1900. Since installation I have been unable to get the system to boot through any method (floppy boot disk or cd boot disk.

I get the option to boot windows in safe mode or several other choices but none of them work. I receive a message,
"Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured or terminated. Run chkdsk /f to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:

I can"t run SCNDSK or anything else. Is there some way for me to run a boot disk or disk to reformat the hard drive an start a new installation of XP Pro.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi,

Check in the BIOS to see if your system is set to boot off the floppy drive first. If it's set to boot off the hard drive first you will not be about to boot to the floppy or CD is the hard drive has problems.

I'm sorry I failed to mention that I have set the BIOS for floppy boot, then cd boot and any number of configurations of the same. They drives will not boot.

Double check that all the IDE cables are correct and tight. I have reversed the floppy cable more than once myself.

The error message will be down to the fact you've got a new motherboard - so yes you need to boot from XP install CD (or boot floppies) to either do a fresh or repair reinstall (

You say it won't boot from floppy or CD - when they are set as first boot device (both being detected properly in the bios?). What happens - does it just ignore floppy/CD and try to boot from hard drive?

Try it with the hard drive disconnected.

And there is the possibility that you have a memory problem.

I would expect that XP would get all choked up about the new M/B, it does more extensive hardware verification than the earlier operating systems, but booting from a floppy or CD should use some generic access methods and boot to a minimal system if all the pieces are working together.

I have tried so many things at this point many several times. I am now able to boot with my A: drive but none of the others. I have used a boot disk called "Techworm" for win 98 but am unable to get any farther. There are two Bios utilities running (1) Phoenix Award Bios v.6 and then (2) Highpoint Technologies HPT 370/372 for creating a raid array. Number two does not recognize a hard drive. Is it normal for two Bios utilities? And, how do I get the utility to recognize the hard drive?

I don't know if this is my overall problem but I have been trying to eliminate every possibility and greatly appreciate all the help.

Ideas?
