I have sort of a unique problem, maybe.
SCO Openserver 5.0.5.
When system boots a message appears,
not a directory
boot not found Cannot open Stage 1 boot failure: error loading hd(40) /boot

I boot from emergency floppies, both boot and root.
ran dparam -w > rebooted
ran divvy with various different switches
divvy reported

name type newfs # 1st block end block

The drive is on a scsi controller: sysbios 53C875

I have tried on different contollers; Adaptec 2940,2940U, 2940uw, 2940u2w with the same results.

I changed different computers from P120 to PIII 500 with no success.

I've attempted to run fsck with different switches, no change. (unable to determine filesystem)

At this point I am open to any suggestions and/or ideas no matter how radical.

Thanks

Ususal noboot is to mount the drive and copy the boot over. BUT you have nothing to copy it to. Looks like the hard drive has upchucked.
You should have boot and stand directories at the beginning and two others at least.
My guess is that you will end up reinstalling, either on this drive , or another. Ed Fair
