Hi all,

(thanks in advance for any help)

I've got a machine that someone has started to load XP on but for some strange reason decided not to go through with it.

Now I'm not sure what he has done but each time the system loads 2000 a boot menu keeps popping up asking if you want to load Win2000 or Win XP setup.

I can't find a Boot.ini file on the machine anywhere as I need to remove this menu at startup so the machine simply boots directly into 2000.

Unless I'm missing something, I'm lost.

Anyone got any pointers for me?

Cheers,

Mike

you have to go to the tools menu in my computer, then folder options, then view. Enable 'show hidden files and folders, and uncheck 'hide extensions for known filke types. Also uncheck 'hide protected OS system files'. You should now be able to see the boot.ini file on the root of your W2k drive. You must right click it and remove read only before you can edit it...

Similarly, you could just:

1) Right-click My Computer, select Properties
2) Go to the Advanced tab
3) Click settings under "Startup and Recovery"
4) The first section deals with Boot.ini. You can also use the Edit button to directly access the file from there.

cdogg - don't think 2k has that edit function - didn't that appear with XP?

Good question. I'm pretty sure it was, because I remember using it when I had a dual boot setup between 98 and 2K. Maybe not?
