I have 2 SCSI drives and have them partitioned. On C drive I have my O/S and then on the partition (E), I have all my programs and users set up. I have the E drive mirrored to the 2nd partition on the 2nd SCSI drive. I want to set up a fresh install on the 1st partition on the 2nd SCSI
drive(E) for a backup boot if my C drive fails. How would I modify my Boot.ini file to tell it to boot off the E drive (2nd SCSI drive)? Would I just have the modified boot.ini file on a disk and use when I start up? What other files would I need on that disk for a startup disk? Thanks for anyones help.

here is the default boot.ini on an IDE hdd on a compaq

[boot loader]
timeout=2
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Windows NT Workstation Version 4.00
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Windows NT Workstation Version 4.00

the important lines are under [operating systems] These determine the choices on start up, which I am sure you are familiar with. The long "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\winnt="OS" is just a long way of saying c:\winnt="os" The key to making an NT machine boot with a "different" partition is understanding the format of this line.
here is a link from the MS Knowledge base on boot.ini formatting.

let me know if this does not answer your question. . I can provide examples if you need them!
