Hi Chaps,

I have got a S70 system with only one internal disk which is in rootvg. The rootvg is mirrored on to another disk which is a part of SSA. Now I am in a situation where I have got a problem with the internal disk,so I am not sure whether I'll be able to boot from this SSA disk or not.How do I check this?

The alternative which I have thought of if I am unable to boot from the SSA disk is to

take a complete system backup
shutdown the system
Replace the internal disk
Restore the backup on to the replaced disk
Bring up the system

Correct me If I am wrong.

TIA
Kumar

Two things to find out:

bootinfo -B <pdiskname> indicates
1 - bootable
0 - non bootable

and

ipl_varyon -i
shows
BOOT DEVICE YES or NO, is a bosboot can write a bootblock on the disk

Thanks madmurdock,

So now I am sure i'll not be able boot from my ssa disk. So can you pl confirm whether the above steps which I have given to replace the disk are correct or not

Complete system backup
Unmirror the logical volumes
Remove the disk from the VG
shutdown the system
Replace the drive
Restore mksysb
Bring up the system
Mirror it on the other disk

Correct me if I am wrong

TIA
Kumar

I would suggest to unmirror the VG first to keep the mksysb smaller. But anyway, the steps are complete and you can do it that way.

Greetings
