What happened when you turned on the power. Did you hear it try to start up? Did the light on front come on and start flashing?
If nothing happened when you pushed the 'ON' button, then you probably have a bad power supply and you'll need to look into it.

If it does try to boot up, and nothing happens after that, it could be the HD. Try swapping it out with a different HD and see if that boots up.

Greetings Jedi,
The light does come and there is a faint tick from the hard drive but nothing else happens, I connected the haeddrive to another machine and it does indeed work but I am still not sure of whether its the motherboard or what?
Thank you for your reply and please feel free to offer any advice.
Thanks

Try replacing the PSU with another good one and see if that alleviates the problem...

90% of the time it is a busted PSU that causes your described symptoms...

If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer...
