I have just purchased a new DELL and I'm trying to replace the OS that it came with with Windows2000 Professional. The machine came with XP Home edition. My problem is that I am creating boot disks using the MAKEBOOT program that comes with the W2K CD.

When I boot using these disks, everything work fine up until DISK3. At that point I get an error that says that atapi.sys is corrupted, and the only option is to reboot the system.

I have tried different disks, distribution CD's etc. Has anyone encountered this issue before.

Thanks in advance...

I have gone through this error message quite a number of times. MS has an article about this
I have been skipping over this file, usually w/ no problem. You could also try replacing just this file, on the install disk I think its called atapi.sy_ locate another copy of it and replace it on disk 3
