We have a 3300 cxi and the hard drive stalls at

FAT handler information:
------------------------
- allocation group size: 176 clusters
- free space on volume: 14,058,840,066 bytes
/db/ - disk check in progress ...

Working with computers myself i am want to do an upgrade or reinstall of the software because i believe the software was corrupted.

My questions are, can i change the boot device in vxworks to look at my ftp server. And tell it to load software from a specific location.

Thanks, I found that too but the problem was the hard drive itself. I was trying to repair the software on the hard drive so i can get a current back up before I replaced it.

If the HD is toast, then the database most likely is as well. Also, I'm not aware of a way to boot from an FTP server that will still load the database from the local HD; normally if you're booting from an external source you're installing/upgrading the software, in which case a re-format of the hard drive is one of the first steps.

I would try to ftp into the box and remove the DB files manually.

After ftp'ing type cd /db

VXworks commands can be found on the internet.

kwb,
That's an option I didn't think of, though it might be a bit risky. But stuff like this is why a GUI-based FTP client like FileZilla is nice to have, just copy the whole /db folder to your machine, re-load the software, and copy the files back. I'm not sure this will actually work, I've never tried it, but it's something to play around with next time I'm working in the lab for sure.

When faced with impossible tasks it is sometimes necessary to attempt unaccepted methods.

I have never tried my FTP solution above but the theory is sound.

I wonder if I can get some help on the back of this post. I have a Lab system that is blacklisted on the AMC due to licences being transfered to a newer box. I have tried copying the DB with FileZiler, as suggested above, and after a reload it seemed to work OK. My question is, if I coppied the DB, re-installed the software, would the licence info be copied back. This is not something that I can experiment with as I could totally kill my LAB kit. If the licence info is not kept in the DB does anyone know where the licence details are stored?
