If you have been experiencing boot problems or stability problems with your state of the art system you built yourself, you could have a simple problem. I found out after several months of work that how you connect your components to your power supply can make all the difference in the world. Many new power supplies have "dual" or "split" rails (basicly two outputs for each voltage). It would seem that you can use any plug from your supply that fits in the device you are connecting right? Well, if you do not balance the load from both "sides" of your power supply, your system may not boot or may be quite unstable. If you are having these problems, try moving some devices to the "other cable" coming from your power supply. Most modern power supplies have two cables for the same connector types, one for each "rail". Hope this helps you!

In addition to this - many people seem to think that the Wattage rating of a PSU is all that matters.

Wrong!

A cheap 550W PSU will often perform worse than a branded, mid-to-high price range 400W PSU.

The wattage is only one thing you should look at, the main thing to look at is the ampage rating available on each rail.
