Boosting an Avaya IP office Expansion Module DS Signal 2

I am m playing around with being able to boot the DS signal from an Avaya IP office 500v2 for an External DS30 Expansion Module 2 Mbits connection (64k x 32). Currently it can only be about 2 meters away form the control unit using a shielded RJ45 cable

I would assume that a POE or an ethernet booster would not do the trick. I want to try this in my shop first. Doers anyone have any suggestions or equipment booster solutions to offer?

Thanks

Avaya Digital Stations are two wire digital devices and connecting any ethernet device, especially a PoE one, would not only not work but is likely to cause damage to the system

Yes I agree. Do you have a suggestion for boosting the DS Signal to the Expansion Module?

Thank you

Actually, connecting a PoE cable will not damage it. That's not how PoE works. I agree with ahorner that it won't work, but there is no cause for concern in connecting a PoE enabled cable to a non-PoE device. That would be a nightmare for everyone, everywhere. PoE works by first sending a very low voltage of 2.7vdc over the cable. The connected device has specific resistance and capacitance if it's PoE-compatible. The switch then recognizes this. If the characterstics do not match the device, the switch assumes it is non-PoE and does not send power.

So that is not an issue or cause for concern. But the bigger point is in fact, it won't work on an Ethernet connection. But for clarity, fear of PoE is not something to worry about.

This is not an Ethernet connection! It is a proprietary connection that happens to use a screened CAT5 patch cable of no longer than 2M. Many people have already tried unsuccessfully to extend this.
