IMO, the best beginner book is Unix Shell Programming by Stephen Kochan and Patrick Wood. It's old, but still viable. It really only covers the Bourne shell with just an introduction to csh and ksh.
My favorite Korn Shell book, for both beginners and old hats, is The Korn Shell - Unix & Linux Programming Manual by Anatole Olczak. It's on Addison-Wesley. It has a big white shell on a blue background on the cover.
