Hi. I have run into a snag on bookmarks with the pdf file. I am the webmaster for our Intranet at the city health department. We scanned our policies and procedures into Adobe PDFs so that the Director's signature could be on the documents (administration does not want to use digital signatures). That means scanning paper copies and that means no bookmarks on the pdf file to start with. -- Anyway, I have been instructed to add a "frequently referenced topics" like a table of contents. These pages also were scanned and I added them as page 1 to the pdf file. -- I tried to set up internal links between the topics and selected spots in the document. Such as - if you click on "maintenance and use by divisions" you will jump to a section on another page called "policy statement."
The links work fine as long as I use Adobe Acrobat (version 5 is what I have), but when I try this via a browser such as IE or Netscape, I can get to the pdf file, but when I try the internal links, I get the following:
The page cannot be found The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please try the following:If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly. Click the Back button to try another link.
Click Search to look for information on the Internet.
Can anyone tell me why the links work in Acrobat but not with a browser? I design the intranet pages in FrontPage. The opening of the intranet uses frames. The pdf files open in a separate window. I get the error message either way - putting them in a frame or their own window.
I wanted to set up links from FrontPage to the PDF file, but apparently you cannot make bookmarks from scanning paper copies. Is there some way you can link from FrontPage to a particular point in a PDF file?? I know you can go the other way around and have a link to web page from the pdf file. If anyone can help me on this it would be truly appreciated. Thanks.
