OK here is an easy one...I hope.

I need book recommendations for the following.

A comprehensive tutorial book on Java Swing (rather than a reference book).

A comprehensive reference book on Java in general.

I have Deitel & Deitel - Java how to program, and although this is a great book for learning from scratch, I feel it lacks the comprehensive detail I need for more advanced programming.

I look forward to hearing all your views.

What I got was the Java Black Book from Coriolis written by Steve Holzner. It's a Java book but half of it is on swing. Thus that might be helpful. The good thing about this book is that has good examples you can learn from and a reference book. Thus you kill two books with one stone. Also you can find refrences from the sun's api and their tutorial:

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks guys

I have to admit, even though the Java tutorial is comprehensive (as it should be coming from sun) I find it a real pain in the arse to use...too many links to too many subsets and i end up getting lost and wearing out the buttons on my mouse and the tendons in my wrist.

Am I alone, I find books much easier to use, quick, no fuss and no typing.

cheers::)
