You know what would be nice? An open blog/wiki/database of book corrections. Ever tried to report a mistake in a Cisco/Sybex/EC2 book? Just trying to find the correct link/email is a task in it's self, and then they ignore your correction.

helpdeskdan,

I checked Sybex, Cisco Press and Exam Cram - picked random books and all three (CCNA Books) had a link to the Errata for that book as a download PDF doc or an HTML page.

In case anyone does not know what an eratta is -
eratta - A list of errors and their corrections or additions to the printing, found after book has been printed, usually on separate sheet or slip of paper.

Dan - they may not be ignoring you - it just may already be listed. Sybex has a special "errata form" on the errata page for items not listed! Here is the errata for the CCNA Study Guide -

To find the errata - go to the publishers site and then find the web page for that book - most will have a link to "Errata" or the download or page that has the correction information.

Hope this helps!

EX2 was the one I was having trouble with. I gave up reporting errors in general after Cisco's BSCI book which, although a good book, does have errors the Errata missed and they do not seem to update the Errata.

Let's take the half way decent EC2 BCRAN book.

No errata, no link to report errata. I found and email and reported an error once; I believe I heard back a couple months later and the error was never listed.

Hence my idea of some sort of database. Somewhere others could double check the errors, and they could be listed immediately instead of sent to the author who could care less if the error gets corrected. (They get paid either way)

helpdeskdan,

Yes - I see what you mean - I think it would be a great idea - we could maybe have a different post for each book - as you find several corrections - Start a post and list the book and the corrections etc.

Just make sure we link back to the publishers site so that -

1) we are all talking about the same book/edition etc.
2) we make sure that we are not doing dupes when an errata does exist.

Just my thoughts!

Hmm.. perhaps. But, it might be kind of hard to search through the forum. Then again, we need a forum because some things that look like mistakes are not.
