Bold text in receiving emails

Hello everyone,

We use GroupWise 5.2 with client version 5.2.6
Some users run into the following problem.

When they type emails in normal text, the
receiver opens it and all the characters are bold.

Is this a windows (95,98) problem or a GroupWise
problem? This particular user works on several
computers with GroupWise. So my opinion is that
it is GroupWise related.

Does anybody know what is going on?

The only way I know that GroupWise does this is when the Enhancement package is installed. Under the enhancement pack you can specify what type of font the e-mail is opened with. If the user chooses a bold font then it would move with him to each of the systems he is on. The only catch to this theory is that the enhancement package would need to be installed on every system he is connecting with. Do you know if you are using the enhancement pack on your network?

We don't use the enhencement pack for GroupWise 5.2

I know for sure it's not available for GW 5.2.
Not all the users share this problem.
Not every email she send has this problem.

An example:
When I type an email in GroupWise in normal plain text and I send it to you (same domain)when you open the email in your GroupWise client you see the email in bold text.

I checked her userdatabase everything looks normal.

If I move to another system and open the e-mail does it follow my account or not? Does it happen all the time on my account (every e-mail) is in bold or just on particular e-mails?

Did the sender type the e-mail in bold? I would check the Sent items of the sender, open the original e-mail and make sure they didn't bold the text. Beyond that I really don't know. If it travels with the user it definitely resides with the GroupWise system. Since you don't have the enhancement pack installed then the only other "Logical" step is to check the sender's e-mail to see if they formatted that way. david e

No the sender did type plain text.

Okay, you got me on this one, I thought about network profiles. If this is a Windows issue and you are running network profiles then the setting would follow the user. But since you said that it doesn't happen all the time that leads me to believe that It's with his particular account. Unfortunately this is one of these issues that I encounter every day where I have to actually be on site to fix. I've never ran into an issue like this before so steering you in the right direction would be a difficult job.

Maybe someone here has ended up with this particular problem before and has a fix for it. Sorry I couldn't help you any further.......If you do find out what the fix is, post it here and I’ll put it in my little book of knowledge for future use….

Kolger, I was having similar problems. I am using groupwise 5.5 though. I belive the problem is with "senders" machine. Try this,

Go the the person who is sending the email. and change their windows font settings. by

Right click on desktop and properties > under appearence > click on the "message text" and then change the fonts, then close and open groupwise and try to send a new email message.

If that doesn't work then try the same procedure on the person who is recieving the email. that should fix the problem.

We are running GW5.5 EP. This sure sounds like a Windows issue to me too. I had a user install a new screen saver and it messed up the font on GroupWise and changed the type to bold. Go to Settings, Appearance and select Message Box and under Item Type, look to see if Bold is selected.
