I have a PC with 550 processor and 810 motherboard, when I try to install an internal modem, windows automatically select com2 and intallation is without errors, but when i run diagnostics for modem thro control panel, modem doesnt respond. I tried in some other machine, where it automatically sets to com3 and modem is working fine? How to prevent windows from automatically installing the software for my modem or what would be the problem? Anybody help pls.. advance thanks.

Complete with all the gory details; and Pictures!

here's another way to install a seemingly non-PnP modem
(from Aopen FAQ section )
it has worked for me at times

it goes step-by-step through adding the COM port, then the modem.

hope it helps!
