Went to install a Bogen ADP1 Door Phone yesterday (attaching it to an ACS 8), and the circuit board is about 1/8" too wide to fit into the metal dual gang box that is installed in the brick wall. Components are packed to the edge of the circuit board, so shaving it down is not an option.
One thing that I have considered is detaching the board from the front plate, and using the Cat5e cable that is in place to extend the connections from the board (which could be placed in the wiring closet next to the ACS) to the front plate at the door. This solution would use 3 pairs (speaker, mic, button).
Can anybody think of a better solution or a reason why this will not work? This seems easier than chipping out the current box and replacing it, plus gives extra weather protection to the electronics on the circuit board.
