i want to cluster 2 machines. i have machine 1 up and running. i have machine 2 running all of its services but i can not start the cms. the services are pointing to machine 1. i have tried repeatedly to get the cms to run. when i did the expand install i said that i assigned it to add to machine 1. when i look at the cluster tab it does not recognize the 2nd machine as a part of the cluster. what did i miss? i have followed the admin guide. what am i forgetting to check?

Hi,
What database are you using for the CMS - If it is PC based ( Like MSDE ) be sure the second machine's services are running under an account that can access the first machine's database..

Hi,
Then be sure the configuration tab for the CMS on the second machine is set to the same Oracle instance and uses the same Username/password and that the tnsnames.ora file on the second machine exactly matches the one on the first..(I am assuming that the Oracle Client on both machines is the same version).

what if the oracle client is on different drives. machine 1 is on d and machine 2 is on c.

tnsnames.ora match

cms still will not start.

machine 2 config tab uses the same as machine 1

it is now saying that the server belongs to the cms (thats progess) but the cms still will not start.

Hi,
Check the Windows event Viewer for any error messages - also be sure you can connect for each machine ( use SqlPlus and the username/password/instance used by the CMS.)

here is the error:
The root server reported an error Initialization Failure. (Reason: The database subsystem could not be loaded. Make sure that the database client is installed. The message returned was The library named oracledatabasesubsystem could not be loaded. The system error message is Loading shared object failed. First tried to load library oracledatabasesubsystem and failed because of error: [The specified module could not be found.
]. Second tried to load library oracledatabasesubsystem.dll and failed because of error: [The specified module could not be found.
]..).

reinstalled oracle, still did not work. same error message as above.

Hi,
Was the Oracle client installed BEFORE CE? If not, you may need to uninstall CE, and reinstall it so it 'sees' the Oracle client.

I do not believe IIS needs to be running on both machines if no user web access is through the second machine..But check the requirement docs to be sure ( or someone here will reply, maybe).
