Is there any way to take a pre-made bitmap and enforce a alpha gradient on it, so that it would fade out to one side?

Specific thing I'm trying to pull off is having a complex colored background, and putting an exact copy of it on top of it, only with the gradient, so I could have a "turning wheel" graphic sandwiched between them to give the effect that the wheel fades out when reaching the other half the background. Ideas?

Thanks!

why not create a linear/radial gradient rectangle/circle, with one gradient colour being 100%alpha white, the other gradient colour being 0%alpha white. Then just sit this on top of your original bitmap.

Because the actual background isn't white...the background is a multi-colored bmp
