BM12 connected to 9608 not enough power 1

I'm trying to connect a BM12 module to a 9608 IP Phone. As soon as I connect the BM12 to the phone, the phone says NOT ENOUGH POWER.

Normally these BM12's work fine connected to a digital 9508 when using the power supply 1151C. The 9608 phone being an IP Phone already has a power injector or is already connected using a Poe switch. I tried various Poe switches and the SPPOE injector from Avaya. None seem to work.

What am I missing ?

Everything I've read says I should have enough power from the phone itself to connect two BM12's. I can't even get one to boot up.

Are there any other button modules available for the 9608 phones ?

Switch the switch (...) on the back side from L to H

maybe try a different cable because maybe the cable has a bad connection that sucks the life out of it.

Usually a single BM is no problem with PoE from the switch, two of them mostly OK, depending on the length of the cable and the PoE switch itself.

Look in the PoE switch and see how much power it draws when connected (if you have a switch that provides that info. If the power is not more than it can provide than you may just have a bad phone or BM.

The 9608 has a power switch underneath it that needs to be set to H when used with button modules. That makes it a Class 3 device so it needs a PoE that can match that.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

sizbut is that found in any of the manuals?
I have looked to find out (a while ago) what that darn switch actually does but couldn't find it. Is that a word of mouth thing maybe?

No worries Westi, its always that way.

The table still implies that one BM12 should be no problem but 9/10 button module problems I've meet have been fixed by ignoring what Avaya's telephone team say and applying a dedicated power supply (and on 96x1s moving the L/H switch). Avaya must test in some very idealized scenarios and very flexible PoE switches.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

I've tried different phones, different BM12 and I even tried a SBM24. Always the same cable though... will try another cable just in case.

I've read about this switch but I can't find any switch on the phone or injector. Can someone tell me where exactly on the phone is this switch located ?

Thx

no switch?
how old is the serial number on the phone?

I found a phone with the switch on it. Turned it to H and it works fine.

Thanks guys!

cool, seems the other one may have been a first edition
Sell it to the Smithsonian institute as they love their artifacts. :)

Good that you have it working

The switch location changed between different hardware revisions of the 9608. On early versions, it is at the top in an oval-shaped depression. On later versions, it is the middle between the "MOD" plug and the headset jack.
