maybe if you read one of my previous threads, then you might know about my problem with blurry lines. jAQUAN suggested that i should re-install the program...but i did something even better...i upgraded to Illustrator 10 (i had illustrator 9, back then)

i still have the same problem now... :(

for example, if i make a black straight line, i always get this fading grey to white on the sides...if i make a square i also have it...and when i try to save it for web, on the color table, it always has more colors than only black...it has this grey gradiating to white, more than 10 colors...so if i put this web-image on a black background, i get this grey/white lines surrounding the image....this also happens to any other color...

if i make a curved line with the pencil tool....it would be partially grey...

if i make a bunch of lines using the pen tool, and then distribute them, the distance between lines will vary...because illustrator thinks that the lines are not equally thick...even if i use the outline view (Ctrl+Y)...but if you zoom in 800% the grey blur wont show, and the lines appears to be distributed pefectly...that aways happen, if you zoom in up to 800%everything looks perfect...

i'm sure i'm not using any filters or effects or any style or anything....

please don't blame my computer, because i tried to install it to my laptop but i still have the problem...i also don't think it's the software, considering that i had the problem using illustrator 9, and still have it after i bought illustrator 10....

can somebody help me...this is really frustrating me...really...

Since it seems you've the only copy of AI ever to this I am going to need some details. What is the value of black you are using? RGB? CMYK? Greyscale? What is the stroke weight? What is the width and height of the object in question? What format are you saving the web files as? .jpg? .gif? what are the settings you are using? quality, blur, matte etc. I will try to recreate the problem from that info. BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!

it doesn't matter, i tried to use RGB CMYK both gives me the same thing...and it happens on every color...not only black....
it happens to every stroke wieght and on every width and heigth...

i dont have to save for the web...even in illustrator i have the problem...i just told you about what happens if i save it for the web, that you can actually see it in the color table...having more than one color...

i dont know which setting you mean, and how to check it...

here is an example of the stripes i saved for the web

stripes.gif

this was made in illustrator 10...color blue, stroke weigth: 1pt, no effect, style or filter used. just drew a bunch of lines, horizontal alligned center, and vertical ditribute center. you can see the differences between lines.

i know this is a tough question, but please help me...this problem has affect my creation process....

thank you very much...

I would say that your video processor is messed up or outdated but since it seems it effecting the way AI actually interprets images I have to think its more specific to your particular AI configuration. Also since you say it happens on your laptop as well I have to think its something your doing during install. There is no preference in AI that would do this though. Also, the save for web... feature is going to use multiple colors no matter what unless you edit the colors right there. I tried it with a solid black line and it suggested 12-14 greys to help anti-alias. You can force it to 2 colors but it looks like a bitmap after that. My point being that the save for web dialoge will not help you diagnose the problem. Have you printed out any of lines on a postscript printer? What are the video card specs for your computer?
