Blurring background 2

I'm not sure where my brain is, but I want to blur the background in some sport photos and I can't remember how to do it. help!!
 
...a number of ways, the most straight forward is to use gaussian blur filter...

filter > blur > gaussian blur

...note this won't won't work in bitmap mode or index mode, needs to greyscale, duotone, cmyk, rgb, lab or multi channel...

Gaussian is a good choice and simple to use. Also experiment with other blur types. Motion and radial blurs work well with action shots like sports. Also, Lens Blur is very good for more realistic blurs, and you can get varying degrees of blur with the right selection.
