Bluetooth is a wireless technology that allows different devices to communicate. Example: A PDA could wirlessly print to a priter that also had bluetooth capability. A slicker example is some of the new high end cars have bluetoth capability between the built in cell phones and the navagation systems. So if you can afford it get your

Realize Bluetooth has an effective range about 30'.
If you Dad is serious about Bluetooth, he should use Service Pack 2 RC2 at least as a start, as it enhances Bluetooth support considerably.
I was at the last Microsoft Summit in May, watching Steve Allchin demonstrate the enhanced features of Service Pack 2 for Bluetooth. It was kind of funny to see his laptop recognize 129 Bluetooth enabled devices in the audience.
The Microsoft guy next to me said: "You know you are at an MVP Summit when 129 Bluetooth devices are recognized during a demo."
