This is on my computer at home, so I'm drawing off of memory.

Had left it on - but locked the keyboard overnight. Went to unlock it and continue using the computer - I was able to put in my name and password in, but it wouldnt log in. the mouse would move around - but when the pointer went over the login box, it'd dissapear behind it. CTRL+ALT+DEL would not pop up the task menu at all. Nothing else I could see to do, so I hit the reset switch.

Now when it starts up - either normal or safe mode with network support, I get the blue screen.

Saying "if this is the first time, reboot.... if not then uninstall any hardware you just installed, etc

I did not configure or install any new hardware. The error is something like XKERN file or similiar.

Any ideas?

Thank you "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!"

Did you install/uninstall software or change any settings prior to locking keyboard? One of your hardware components may be on its way out. Have you tried searching the MS knowledge base with exact text from error message?

Hi Wolluf, thanks for your response.

Not yet, I actually just put the computer together a few days ago, it's been up and running for about 2 or 3 days. I had not installed or uninstalled anything yesterday, just started a large download via ftp - then locked the keyboard up.

I can't get past the blue screen at all - to try to search the knowledge base. Do you think I should just reinstall the OS? or will that even work? "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!"

schase,

Try this:

1.) Turn on the PC, and when you see the "Starting Windows, Hit F-8 for options" at the bottom of the screen, hit the F-8 key.
2.) From the boot menu, select "Last Known Good Configuration" by using the arrow keys, and hit ENTER.
3.) At the next screen, type an "L", and hit ENTER.
4.) This should boot your PC up!

Let Me Know!

Hi Rich,

I'll try that tonight, I did try last known good configuration - to the same result, but I did not try L.
