Blue Screen of death at startup

I have a windows XP Pro that was not online for a while, i updated some windows update and upon reboot i get the BSD (blue screen of death). The message reads IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, this pc is not up on SP1 yet that was to be done today. Anyone know how i can get around this message and boot, i can boot into safe mode.

As a first stop download the Mem tester from

http://www.memtest86.com/

and run that. This is a problem that has been widely discussed on this forum, but is not always easy to pin it down.
