I bought a new mobo/processor, and now I get a blue screen even if I boot in safe mode. It says my computer id being shut down to prevent damage, and to check my hard drive. Is there any way around this besides reformatting?

Did you just move the exisitng drive 'as is' into new hardware setup? If so, that's what the problem is (basically drivers).

If you're running 2k or XP, you could try a repair reinstall (keeps apps, data, settings, loses windows updates, so need to reapply latest service pack - if not part of install CD - and visit windows update afterwards). This often will sort out your problem - but you may be better off backing up and doing a clean install.
