Doe anyone know an easy way to block people sending internet mail to a GroupWise distribution group? I have a few distribution groups and don't want them available over the internet. I'm looking for a switch I can use to remove them from being available as valid internet addresses? Any thought would be appreciated.

David,
You can goto GWIA properties in the GW View, pick 'Access Control', 'Create' - new class of service (give it a name), in tab 'SMTP Incoming' click on Prevent incoming messages. You can also do the same in tabs 'SMTP Outgoing, IMAP4 & POP3. Then click OK, click on Distribution Lists tab, highlight the one you want, click Add>>, then OK. That should do it.

Good Luck,

Mark ;-)

Mark,
That was what I thought to but when I add the Distribution group in the Class of Service, it denies all e-mail to the members of the Distribution group + the distribution list itself (more than what I wanted). Reading the information regarding Access Control it states...."the class that applies is the one that allows the most privileges.

it then goes on to describe the hierarchy

Membership through a distribution list...

the default class of service membership
domain membership
post office membership.

Under normal circumstances I really wouldn't care but I have someone playing games with my distribution groups and likes to send SPAM to them. I would like to remove them (the groups only) from receiving internet e-mail.

I think you need to go under the GWIA properties, SMTP tab, address handling tab and uncheck the expand groups on incoming messages.

Tried it both ways and it didn't work. I've created a group and placed my ID in the group. Once I place the group in the class of service and deny SMTP inbound I get mail bounced back. If I check under Access Testing my own account it lists me Denied for receiving SMTP mail. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

See if there is a /GROUP switch in the GWIA.CFG You also have to take down and restart the GWIA for the change to take hold (see TIDs 10018446 and 10008141 at Novell).

rjs,
Can't thank you enough, that did the trick. Thanks for steering me in the right direction.
