I think you are using vxfs(or jfs) in this case the command for wich you are looking for is:
fstyp -v /dev/vgXX/lvolY
if you use hfs use the command
tunefs -v /dev/vgXX/rlvolY
I think the default block size for jfs is 1 Kb(At least it was in 10.X) but I don´t know if this has changed.
If you are working with Oracle the Oracle Block size should be at least the same than the OS Block size but you can play with these values. If you are installing an OLTS you would want to set the block size at the less possible value but if you are working with DataWareHouse perhaps the right value is the maximun block size that the OS supports.
