I am remotely backing up a Magix 4.0 using a Socket Magix IP unit.
Near the end of the backup a pop-up says "Block Sequence Error in Xmodem" . Has anyone seen this type of error ?
Absolutely. I've pretty much only seen it on modem connections, but even with Socket Magix there is a point where the data turns back into serial. XMODEM is a pretty simple protocol that uses basic checksums to see if the data arrives in tact. The block sequence is part of the header and basic checksum. If it gets corrupt too many times, WinSPM or whatever gives up on it and reports the error. Whats the chance you have noise in that room?
I think Ethernet packets (though variable in size) probably manage XMODEM handily, though many re-transmissions could cause trouble. I assume that Mike is running different circuits to each location, so your theory is plausible. Last time this happened to me, it would fail at different spots. Sometimes it would fail within the first minute or two--other times while the backup was much further along. Try backing up when the switch is idle...just for fun.
Thank you for your advise, I was sucessful later in the day.
When I think about it I shouldn't be surprised to get an error once in a while, even in an IP world.
I'm in N.H. logged into a Magix in Maine and backing it up to an Archival drive in M.A. So any one of those IP segments could have been unstable..
