Block Ports

If you are trying to block ports such as AOL instant messenger or yahoo chat, I have had various discussions regarding this....I have been specifically told that IOS firewalls cannot do that. Reason being that these chat programs use a variety of ports. I have attempted to block these chat programs at my office and have not had success. What ports are you trying to block?
