Hi guys,

Does FOS 7.x allow URL filtering and messenger blocking ? If not, does anyone know which models of the ASA series allow this (I don't need content filtering - just a couple of URL's such as youtube and hotmail etc to be blocked). Then again, has anyone successfully blocked hotmail etc with 6.x code ? Many thanks.

Regards Colin.

Yes, the ASA 7.2 code allows application inspection. You could then write a custom map that disallowed instant messaging and urls.

BAddos,

Truly sorry to intrude upon this Q/A but I am looking for more info on exactly what you stated above "writing custom maps that disallow instant messaging". Can you point out a url or specific cisco link that gives some examples?

Thanks for any support at all

Hi Baddos,

Thanks for the reply. For the particular client this thread was aimed at I have now gone down the route of a Watchguard X550e which has all the filtering you could ever need (and more - great piece of kit!). It's useful to know that the 7.2 code will let me filter URL's etc for future clients - many thanks.

Regards Colin.
