I am wondering if it is possible to block access to a specific file on a website using whatever method Windows has. Here is my situation, nobody at my organization can get to any CNET site. I found through some trial and error that if I block the following file everything works fine

I was able to do this on my PC using AdBlock Plus for Firefox but I don't want to install anything on the computers if I can help it.

I checked my firewall and nothing is being blocked, this is for all CNET sites too, cnet.com, zdnet.com and techrepublic.com, I updated Java, have all the latest patches and cannot figure any other way to get to the site. I even checked with my ISP and found that we have the same ISP as CNET so that isn't the issue either, there is something strange with that JS file. Any other people noticed anything like this with CNET sites recently? This has not always been a problem, just recently. I have contacted CNET too, but I am holding my breath to hear back from them about this problem.

Can you use the "Deny" Permission to block access to a file?

In Control Panel|INTERNET OPTIONS|SECURITY TAB, click the Default Level button. That should enable common scripting options for most circumstances.

Try reregistering ScrRun.dll from the Start Run box,
Regsvr32 scrrun.dll

Does cleaning out Temp files and Temporary Internet Files help?

You could set the Firewall to block JavaScripts... as the file in question is a JavaScript, the problem with this is that all other websites which use JavaScripts will not work thereafter....

alternative to AdBlock would be to use NoScript for FF...
